The Wressle oilfield was brought onstream on schedule in January 2021 under natural flow and after a proppant squeeze the full production rate of 500 b/d was achieved in August 2021
Status as at 24 August 2021
Egdon is pleased to advise that the coiled tubing operation has been completed safely and successfully and the Ashover Grit reservoir has been returned to flow, under extended well testing operations. The well flow is continuing to clean-up and has not yet reached its full potential. The measured flow rates have exceeded 500 barrels of oil per day under a restricted choke setting, which was the forecast rate following the proppant squeeze operation.
We will provide a further update once stabilised flow rates are established in the coming weeks.
Wressle History
In June 2013 Egdon Resources U.K. Ltd received temporary planning permission from North Lincolnshire Council to drill an exploratory conventional oil well on farmland at Lodge Farm to the north of the hamlet of Wressle off the B1208 in North Lincolnshire, six miles to the east of Scunthorpe. Egdon also obtained Environmental Permits for drilling and testing operations at the Wressle site.
Drilling took place at Wressle during July and August 2014. The well was drilled to a total depth (TD) of 2240 metres measured depth (MD) (1814 metres true vertical depth below OS datum (TVDSS)). Petrophysical evaluation of log data acquired in the Wressle-1 well and elevated gas readings recorded whilst drilling indicate the presence of potential hydrocarbon pay in three main intervals, and the well was completed with a 4 ½” liner.
Test operations commenced in January 2015 and were completed at the end of March 2015. The Wressle-1 well has flowed oil and gas from three separate reservoirs, the Ashover Grit, the Wingfield Flags and the Penistone Flags. This totalled 710 barrels of oil equivalent per day from all zones.

Egdon first applied for planning permission to develop the Wressle discovery in 2016. Both applications were refused and appealed as detailed below in Wressle Development Planning History
The Wressle well involved conventional drilling for oil and did not and will not involve the process of hydraulic ‘fracking’ for shale gas or shale oil.
