In December 2014 Egdon Resources U.K. Ltd, as operator of the licence area PEDL241, received temporary planning permission from Lincolnshire County Council to drill an exploratory conventional oil well on farmland off Smithfield Road, North Kelsey, Brigg, Lincolnshire.

The North Kelsey Prospect is defined on 3 Dimensional seismic data and has potential for up to four stacked conventional reservoir intervals in the Chatsworth, Beacon Hill, Ravensthorpe and Santon sandstones.  Please read on and refer to our dedicated Community Website

For clarity the operations at the site will not involve the process of hydraulic “fracking” for shale gas. This part of Lincolnshire does not have the specific rock-formation types that contain shale gas as determined by the BGS in 2013.

Egdon will shortly submit an application to the Environment Agency for permits to enable the drilling and possible subsequent testing at the North Kelsey site:

Egdon having satisfied all of the conditions of the planning consent began site construction operations during the winter of 2017. On 9 April 2018 the determination of our application to extend to December 2020, the existing planning permission was deferred pending a site visit by the committee.

We will advise local residents and stakeholders ahead of drilling operations commencing.

In May 2018 Egdon received an extension of temporary planning permission from Lincolnshire County Council until December 2020.

LCC was then challenged by local activists as to the legality of their planning decision but this was dismissed in October 2018

On 1 July 2019 the LCC planning committee approved various variations to the existing approvals at North Kelsey.
